Holter monitoring

Holter monitoring is a non-invasive, continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) recording typically worn for 24 to 48 hours to evaluate the heart’s electrical activity during normal daily activities. Unlike a standard ECG, which captures only a few seconds of heart rhythm, a Holter monitor detects intermittent arrhythmias, palpitations, unexplained fainting (syncope), or irregular heartbeats that may not occur during a routine ECG. The device is small, portable, and worn on the chest with electrodes attached to the skin. Patients are encouraged to maintain a symptom diary during the monitoring period to correlate any symptoms (like dizziness or chest pain) with the heart's rhythm at that time. Holter monitoring is an important diagnostic tool in cardiology, helping guide treatment decisions for conditions like atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, tachycardia, and other rhythm disturbances.
