An Outpatient Department (OPD) consultation is the first point of contact between a patient and a doctor for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and management of health concerns. During an OPD visit, the physician begins with a detailed history taking, followed by a general physical examination, and then proceeds to a systemic examination based on the patient’s complaints.

• The general examination assesses overall health status, including vital signs like blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation, along with inspection for pallor, jaundice, cyanosis, edema, and lymph node swelling.
• The systemic examination involves a focused evaluation of major body systems — respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems — to identify any abnormalities.
