The tetanus vaccine is vital for preventing tetanus, a life-threatening infection caused by bacteria found in soil and dust that can enter the body through cuts or wounds. It is given as part of the Tdap or Td vaccine, with booster doses every 10 years throughout adulthood. In cases of injuries or wounds, an additional tetanus shot may be given if the last dose was administered more than 5 years ago.
